Parnassus Terminal

Privacy, taken to the limit.

Our clients use Parnassus Terminal to study the people and institutions they may one day face across the table. So the rule we have always followed is to know as little about them as possible, and to say plainly what we do keep.

Searches leave no trace.

Standard search is carried out entirely on your own device. Smart search runs on our own servers and sends the results back to your device; the words you type are never logged, stored or shown to anyone. We record only that a search took place and how many results it returned, to keep use fair, never what it was.

Every file is accounted for.

Every file is checked by our server before it reaches you, and every account has a fair-use limit, so no one can carry the database away. To make that hold, we record which files and relationship graphs each account opens, and when. The record is kept permanently. Only two people can see it, our Operations Director and our Managing Director, and it is used only to keep use fair and to look into misuse.

No one else in the room.

No advertising, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party code or fonts. Parnassus talks only to our own servers, so no third party learns that you signed in or what you looked at. We keep no log of IP addresses.

Your notes are yours alone.

Notes, comments and open tabs are kept in your account, so they follow you from device to device. No other user can open them, and our own administration tools see only how much space they take up. They are never merged into our database, and they are deleted when your account is closed.

AI that stays in-house.

Smart search uses an open model, Microsoft’s multilingual-e5, running on our own servers. What you search for is never sent to an AI company, and we do not use models released by companies or institutions in the People’s Republic of China.

Encrypted in transit and at rest.

Every connection is encrypted (TLS 1.2 or later), and so is everything we store (AES-256). Passwords are kept only as one-way hashes. Parnassus runs on Amazon Web Services in Tokyo.

What was never written down cannot be handed over.

We never sell, rent or share your information. The words you search for were never recorded, so whoever asks and whatever the grounds, it is not only that we would not hand them over: we could not.

What we do keep

  • Your account: your name, your e-mail, your role, a one-way hash of your password, and when you last signed in.
  • What you create: notes, comments, tabs and keyboard settings, kept for you and encrypted when stored. Our administration tools cannot read them, and we do not read them either. Deleted with your account, and gone from our backups within 35 days.
  • The access record: which files and relationship graphs each account opened, and when. Kept permanently; seen only by our Operations Director and Managing Director.
  • Searches: that a search took place, when, and how many results it returned, never what was searched. Deleted after 14 days.
  • Daily usage: how many files each account opened each day, and the last one, for the fair-use limit. Deleted after nine days.
  • Error reports: the kind of error only, never its content.

Privacy notice

What this website collects about you, and what it does not.

Bleichröder’s Message runs this website, bleichrodersmessage.com. This notice says what the website collects about you and what happens to it. Questions about it go to contact@bleichrodersmessage.com.

What we collect

Only what you write in the contact form: your name, your email address, the topic you choose and your message, and your organisation and title if you give them. Without your name, email address and message we cannot reply; your organisation and title are optional.

The website sets no tracking cookies and uses no analytics or advertising services. Your browser keeps a few settings for this site on your device — the light or dark theme and the language you chose — and none of them is sent to us.

The Parnassus demo

The live demo of Parnassus Terminal runs in your browser. The notes you write, the tabs you open and the settings you change in it stay on your device and are never sent to us.

How we use it

Only to reply to you. Unless you agree to it, we do not add you to a mailing list, sell your details or pass them to anyone else.

Where it goes, and for how long

When you send the form, your message goes straight to our email inbox. The website keeps no copy: nothing is written to a database, and the service that sends it keeps no record of what you wrote.

To stop automated spam, that service counts the messages sent from each internet address over the last hour. The count is held in its memory only and is never saved.

We keep your message and our correspondence only for as long as it needs: while we are in touch with you, and for what follows from it. If you ask, we delete it.

Our email is provided by Google (Google Workspace), and the website and its form by Amazon Web Services. They handle your message on our behalf, to deliver and store it, and their servers may be outside Taiwan.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, to give you a copy of it, to correct or complete it, to stop using it, or to delete it. Write to contact@bleichrodersmessage.com.
